I have a similar problem. When using Pidgin 2.7.11 on my Win7 Pro, 64
bit box, and someone attempts to send a file, Pidgin generates an error
and closes...

Is there a way to broadcast a message to a group / roster using XMPP? If
not, this would be another very useful feature.

Another messenger that I have used in the past directly supports UNC
paths as links. However, I don't believe that Pidgin does.
Here is an example \\ComputerName\share
This would be a useful feature.
