Ken is still having a problem:
I double checked that and that was selected. I just did some more
testing and it looks like after half an hour pidgin stops

Sound alerts are not active when your are idle by default, change the
setting as :
Goto : Tools >> preferences >>

After loading Pidgin sounds for outgoing and incoming IMs work fine. After a
few minutes I no longer get sound notifications. I've looked and made sure that
the MessegeNotifcation plug-in
