yellow star and flag icons for channel admins. No status, neither green or
clock.
If i add irc user to main buddy list, green icon is always shown regardless
of away status.

Changes your IRC nick to indicate you are away.
No, that is not it. Setting your own status works fine.
Perhaps this is a question for dev list?

That is very likely. I can't find much about it on the internet with the
exception of old bug reports that are marked as closed. The devs are
probably the next best place to go, although many of them monitor the
support list as well.

Generally speaking the Green Icon appears next to the name when they are
available and it switches to a small clock icon when they are away.
Are you not observing this behavior?
