Hi, I'm trying to do a clean install of SM 2.23 on a new laptop using Ubuntu 12.04.3, but I'm getting (seamonkey:5378 and 2917) errors.

More or less following the Linux Installation Instructions on www.seamonkey-project.org/doc/install-and-uninstall, I've downloaded seamonkey-2.23tar.bz to /usr/local, decompressed it into a /user/local/seamonkey directory, and then cd seamonkey. All seems OK up to this point, but then:

------
------
:/usr/local/seamonkey$ ./seamonkey
`menu_proxy_module_load': ./seamonkey: undefined symbol: menu_proxy_module_load

(seamonkey:2917): Gtk-WARNING **: Failed to load type module: (null)

-------
------

NB: The above code was the result of my 2nd attempt after starting again. On my 1st attempt I had a similar result where the failure lines started with (seamonkey:5378) instead of (seamonkey:2917). What do these figures mean?

On both occasions, although my Terminal still had processes running and seamonkey failed to run correctly, a Seamonkey browser window nevertheless did open and displayed http://www,seamonkey-project.org/releases/seamonkey2.23/ and the browser basically worked.

When I then closed the browser, MY Terminal cleared. Trying to reopen the programme with the command "seamonkey" gave me:
The program 'seamonkey' is not currently installed. You can install it by typing:
sudo apt-get install seamonkey
It's oerhaps worth pointng out that I've previously installed earlier versions of Seamonkey on other laptops, the only difference on those occasions was that I used a seamonkey directory in my home folder instead of in /usr/local.

Another point it's perhaps worth mentioning is that I can't see how to apply the instructions on /doc/install-and-uninstall to [QOUTE] hook up SeaMonkey complete with icon to the GNOME Panel
to Ubuntu 12.04 Unity desktop.

Dunno if my problems are related specifically to SM2.23 or that as an incresingly forgetful old codger, I've made some stupid mistake. Either way, wold appreciate some guidance. TIA :)

 + John
