They have hard to find free for personal use versions.

If you just want basics, antivirus,etc and not full package look at AVG.
My wife ran it for years on WIN XP, WIN 7. She recenly updated to the
full package ($39. I think) on Win 7 with no problems.
I use AVG free on my Virtual XP system. Only boot into it a couple times
a month when supporting

Nowadays, Microsoft Security Essentials seems to be a rather good
non-bloated and not-in-your-way choice for Windows users.
