Please let me know if you try it ! A couple of questions for you or anyone
that has used it - will it burn a 5.1 DVD with this and it will play on
commercially available DVD players ? Will DVDs still play in the newer
generation of Bleurays etc though ? Will this program burn to blue

Not free, but a steal at the low price they are asking is Cirlinca's
software. It does gap-free recording.
For Linux and Mac OSX, you can use the DVD-Audio Tools:
