I saw something on ripley's believe it or not about a VW bus running
on veggie oil/fat/lard/cooking grease/etc. Is this popular news? I
never saw this before. Is this used in conjunction with a diesel
engine or regular 'oline engine?

Jonathan,
Ethanol is slower burning and thus the power is
applied more evenly and more effectively. Gasoline
burns too fast, and this is what leads to engine
knock, and why variouus additives try to slow down
the combustion process.. The problem with gasoline
is that it requires different air-fuel
Doug,
Yeasts are a classification of simple organisms
which eat sugars and produce alcohol (ethanol) as
a waste product, along with carbon dioxide. They
are closer to an animal than a plant, as they
breathe oxygen and emit CO2, and do not have a
capacity for photosysthesis.

i meant for heating the whole house, i have designed separate for solid fuels.
gonna add a coil for destressing potable water heater, but point is any fossil
fuel is really too expensive to use exclusively.
we use oil heat in old enterprise cooking stove for house heat, it's rather
inefficient. w

I get the digest versions. That cuts dow

I'd go. submerge the radiator in an insulated 55 gallon drum. circulate your
house hot water through the drum. if the water isn't staying hot enough,
submerge the oil radiator as well.

i'm here cause i want to find an alternate to expensive home heating oil, and
maybe for steam power generation fuel. got water heat going in maybe add
steam to it, it's going in 10' from the house.

I am a homeowner on a small (1/6 acre?) lot, so I won't be building
any stills! But I learned about biodiesel a long time ago, and had a
thought: if ethanol alone is basically 105 octane supergasoline, might
it be possible to use ethanol as a base and reduce the octane with
some other easy-access
Having read a bit about the work at Journey to Forever, I have a question:
have any of you ever attempted to discover a mixture of vegetable oil(s) and
ethanol that could fuel an unmodified gasoline engine?

Interesting. I'd not like it to happen to me(G). My turbo must still be
pretty good, I'm glad for that. I wonder how a diesel that had that bad of
blowby could even start in the first place, compression being the critical
component that it is. Of course one really bad cylinder with crankcase
