If you want to know on good reason for the problems in this country look
at the gas mileages for the 2005 vehicles in the latest Consumer Reports.
Damned few vehicles are rated over 20 mpg and Detroit and the European
manufacturers just keep pumping them out. Until fuel reaches about
$5/gallo
If you really want a diesel vehicle and are not satisfied with what's
available, find a small pickup with a blown engine and replace it with a
diesel out of a junkyard. In the eighties, Toyota, Nissan, Isuzu, and Mazda
all made diesels for small trucks, and some of them can still be found.
