I have just finished collected the ingredients for my first batch of biodiesel. I have 2 Litres of Blended vegetable Oil, 1 Litre of Methanol (enough to do a 5 litre batch)and a container of 98% granulated sodium hydroxide. I was just about to mix the sodium Hydroxide with the methanol when I thought to my self how will I measure 3.5 grams, even if I double the test batch size and make 2 Litres so that I can measure out 7 grams I don't know if the cheap analogue kitchen scales I have are accurate enough. Can I measure out just a touch over 5 grams or do I have to go out and spend up on some flash scales, in other words is close enough good enough for the first test.

P.s is it possible to use volume measurements i.e. 1 Teaspoon etc.

Dean.
