He claims 70% efficiency for the electrolyzer and $800 per kilowatt capitalization. An abstract is at the URL. Efficiency for the fuel cell is typically worse. Then you have the storage problem. Hydrogen is pretty ho-hum when you add all the numbers. Green plants convert solar energy into oil which can be processed into biodiesel. Diesels are a fairly mature technology and appear to have much longer life on biodiesel. Storage is simple. Cost is low. Can be implemented now. Is low tech, village level stuff. Decentralization is a key parameter to freedom -- if you think such a thing is important. Energy will be used just as food will as a method of enslaving/controlling you. Hybrid designs have possibility. Skeleton (not Skelton) demonstrated a super capacitor with order of magnitude power density improvement. Approaching lead/acid storage densities without lead so no critical material shortage or toxicity. Engine could be smaller and be optimized. No sulphation problem with super cap if stored discharged.
