If they'd use the request header for browser switching, and send the
SVG content to browsers in which it works, then users might become
more aware that there's a difference.

I agree that it's interesting to know. There should be a variation on
the SVG logo which specifically stands for "SVG powered--behind the
scenes" which people can put on their websites and link to pages
explaining how SVG is used for that site, just to make the presence of
SVG more visible. Something like the SVG logo peeking out from behind
a curtain... someone will probably have a better idea. I think it
should not be just the SVG logo, to avoid confusion.
