Another fellow you need to talk to is Jost Klopfstein (jost at
axostech dot com). I talked to him about a month ago about this exact
problem. Unfortunately I wasn't able to provide him much help at the
time, but I'm sure he's had some progress since then.

Hi,
I would also look at the option to convert the SVGs to PDF for printing,
instead of
generating raster images. Batik/FOP can convert to PDF and raster images,
although
sometimes graphics elements are rasterized in the final SVG, esp. when opacity
and filters
are used.
