I tried with MySQL 5.0.18 and the problem disappeared.
I downloaded the binary from mysql.org.
Now I have two MySQL's running on the same machine. I cannot touch the 4.1.12.
Now I'm going to discover your application.

Could you try a more recent MySQL version (4.1.18, or 5.0.18),

I successfully installed SWAMP 1.4 from source code.
I use apache-tomcat 5.5.15, apache-ant 1.6.5, jdk1.5.0_06, MySQL 4.1.12.
When I try to login to SWAMP using the default initial usernames (for example
