Ruby characters markup for Japanese text is properly called *Furigana*. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Furigana So if you wish to learn more about it, you'll have more success searching for *Furigana*. cf. Searching for *Ruby* will mostly return results for the Ruby programming language. btw.

My response on JSword-devel mailing list: JSword has no support for ruby markup. I haven’t looked at it for years, but from what I remember, it was experimental, using OSIS in a non-standard way. Chris added support for it in the engine as he did for other things that are still not considered as
