Have you considered something like Fink or Darwin ports? It has been a
while since I last used a Mac for development, but all of those things
should be an apt-get away.

Debian lists (-devel and -user) there are many recent discussions on
recommended packages for a lighweight desktop.

when trying to "convert" their Knoppix install over
to Debian. BTW, the new Debian installers work very well on a very wide
range of equipment. You should have no trouble using that.
