Ok, I guess I just didn't dig deep enough, and now I feel silly. There are
two security parameters that can be set under your firewall definition:
access_denied_handler
access_denied_url
The solution was so simple that it was incredibly easy for me to miss. :)

It doesn't look like the exception is uncaught but it's super late and I may
be missing something obvious. Either way, I'll give that a try. :)
