There is a Pull Request waiting to be merged that resolve our problem. I had the same problem and applying this patch to my Symfony library did the trick. You can check it out here: https://github.com/symfony/symfony/pull/694. The problem right now is that there is an option for the pattern format but it is not used anywhere in the DateType class in Symfony2 Beta1.
