I agree with Ondrej. Since PyDy is (still at least) separate form SymPy, another idea regarding GSoC would be to apply to work under the umbrella of Python. See http://wiki.python.org/moin/SummerOfCode/2011. You have to fill out an application to work under them this year. I would also look at
