I regularly run my distance runners on the 4 x 400, even on "B" or "C" teams

It's pretty hard to hurt a distance runner with a 400m. (Unless they do

In 1968 Bob Beamon broke the World Record in the long jump.
Finishing 6th in that competition was Alan Crawley of Australia at 8.02m.
Crawley went on to become a P.E. teacher.

Hi,
I simply stated that walking is track and field as defined by the track and
field governing body. If walking is not considered track and field for the
reason that it doesn't always take place on the track, then so should the

You're being pedantic now. Just because grass doesn't grow in doesn't mean

Hi,
I don't want to get into who deserved the award but the international
amateur athletic federation (IAAF) considers walking as track and field.
Do we eliminate indoor "field events" from track and field because they
don't take place on a field?
Regards
Mike

Oh no, not again! I really thought the exchanges of a month or so ago
had at least established the consensus that walking IS part of track and

the field, but simply because its events are part of T&F at Olympic Games,

No disrespect to Korzienowski, but why he? Ian Thorpe had a great year,
too. Why not he? Because swimming and walking are not track and field.
A very interesting story. The tragic concusion was the death of Komar and,
