Back in the 1980's, the suspension for stimulents was the same as for steroids. I
think in the early 1990's, a distinction between the two categories was written into
the rules. Steroid use was subject to a two-year penalty on a first offense and life
on a second offense.(The two year penalty

There IS a way: Don't take cold medicines when you KNOW you will test
positive and get a DQ. Many people think, Well, my cold is real bad, so I

Hi all,
I was going to put together my own preview of this weekend's

outdone. You can check it out on the www.mactrack.net message board at

Ed,
Taking
any kind of medicine (especially cold medicine) without knowing what is in it is

Thanks to those who answered my earlier post on this unfortunate

I
have to disagree that there is any relation between taking something for a cold

IMHO, there is no excuse for taking a banned over the counter cold/allergy

A break from our pseudoephedrine habit...
Not much talk about last weekend's terrific SEC. The
men's 800 particularly stood out. While South Carolina's Otukile Lekote

I'm eating lunch and reading The Source by Track and Field News where
they list the HS men's and women's records. Within the section on The
records as TFN sees them, they state that the HS season runs through

Regarding stimulants, it seems like, for once, the IAAF has taken a pretty
reasonable stance.
As some may know, in the 19th century 6-day races were an immensely popular
spectator sport. The races were run on indoor tracks and places like
Madison Square Garden were filled night and day. The
Can't help you on your specific question, but the June HS-only
invitationals are often after graduation for many students. If the rule is
that a runner is no longer in high school after graduation, that would
decimate those invitationals! I know of one case (dating from 1959) where
a runner broke

One of several reasons that the popularity of the races diminished was

the competitors started using all kinds of different stimulants to keep
themselves going - most of it was
Lekote's improvement is every bit as impressive. His PR coming
