Maybe it comes from being 4 years older, but El Guerrouj certainly doesn't seem to have the finishing kick now that he did in 1998. Not that the last 300 in Rieti was exactly slow, but compare it to his world record: Rome '98: 2:46.34 @ 1200m + 39.66 last 300m = 3:26.00 Rieti '02: 2:44.75 @ 1200m
