Netters: This morning, I received a call from my good friend Larry Sullivan, who has apparently lost his oldest son-in-law in the New York tragedy. I had already made note of this in an earlier post, but now have a few more details which might be of interested , particularly to those on the list who know Larry. Larry's daughter met John Farrell when they were fellow students at Bernards HS, a school whose accomplishments in track and field and CC would take an entire book to chronicle. They started dating as sophomores and had been together ever since. They have four children, two boys and two girls, aged three to 11. The couple are prishioners of St. James, Basking Ridge (Bernards Twp), a parish my younger daughter also attends. There are nine missing persons from the parish, eight men and one woman, typical of many religious institutions of all faithers in the North Jersey area. (There was a story in the Star Ledger this morning about a parish in Monmouth County where 78 names were read out at Sunday Mases this week, more than half of them parishioners). It has, as I also noted earlier, been estimated that at least half of the victims are from our state. It s an unfortunate fact that my old hometown, jersey City, has been used as a base by the plotters in both the present instance and in the 1993 attack, principally because of its location just across the river from downtown NYC. It is, I would note for those who will be reading stories about this, also tru that the response by the town I still think of as home that is entirely commensurate with its long history of response to piublic crises.
