I have filed 106 ties or improvements in women's pole vault national records of 42 countries during the 2002 outdoor season. This probably underestimates the total number of improvements, since these may go unposted during the course of the season, especially those below 3.60m.
Individually, the most interesting assaults on the records were by Kirsten Belin of Sweden, Krisztina Molnár of Hungary, and Olga Dogadko of Israel. Belin equalled or bettered the Swedish record ten times (Hanna-Mia Persson twice more). Molnár and Dogadko each bettered or tied their national records five times. I would very much appreciate learning of any other 2002 improvements in these or other national records, so they can be included in a posting of all of the current records, hopefully next week. --RR National Records Improved or Tied in the 2002 Outdoor Season Belarus 3.80 Svetlana Makarevich 2002-05-23 Kiev 3.80 Yuliya Taratynova 2002-06-06 Brest Belize 2.40 Clarencia Jones 2002-05-24 Cd Guatemala 2.40 Kay de Vaughan 2002-05-24 Cd Guatemala Belgium 4.03 Irene Dufour 2002-07-13 Oordegem Bolivia 2.30 Emily Ochoa 2002-03-13 Capiapo Brazil 4.00 Karla Rosa da Silva 2002-05-12 Cd Guatemala Canada 4.35 Stephanie McCann 2002-06-21 Edmonton Chile 4.00 Carolina Maurer-Torres 2002-07-22 Bern Colombia 3.68 Milena Agudelo 2002-04-27 Cali Croatia 3.55 Ivona Jerkovic 2002-06-08 Zagreb Cyprus 4.05 Anna Fitidou 2002-06-16 Trikala Egypt 3.51 Sonya Ahmed 2002-03-30 Kansas City El Salvador 3.73 Michelle Rivera 2002-05-10 Van Nuys, CA Finland 4.15 Paulina Sigg 2002-08-07 Munich 4.15 Paulina Sigg 2002-08-24 Helsinki France 4.46 Marie Poissonier 2002-07-13 Saint-Etienne 4.46 Vanessa Boslak 2002-07-13 Saint-Etienne Germany 4.77 Annika Becker 2002-07-07 Bochum Great Britain 4.41* Janine Whitlock 2002-06-16 Manchester Greece 4.38 Yeorgyia Tsiliggiri 2002-06-08 Mytilene Hong Kong 2.87 Sharon Kong Yuen Fan 2002-04-07 Hong Kong Hungary 4.53 Krisztina Molnár 2002-09-08 Rieti India 3.45 Karamjit Kaur 2002-09-07 New Delhi Indonesia 4.10 Desy Margawati 2002-08-10 Colombo Israel 4.00 Olga Dogadko 2002-06-08 Tel Aviv Italy 4.30 Francesca Dolcini 2002-07-21 Viareggio Japan 4.20 Takayo Kondo 2002-06-07 Kanazawa 4.20 Masumi Ono 2002-08-10 Colombo Lithuania 3.41 Rita Snarskaite 2002-07-13 Kaunas Luxembourg 3.50 Joelle Scheer 2002-07-14 Dudelange Mauritius 3.35 Nancy Cheekoussen 2002-07-13 Réduit Netherlands 4.40 Monique de Wilt 2002-08-09 Munich Nigeria 2.65 Victoria Itado 2002-06-19 Lagos 2.65 Esther Duso 2002-06-19 Lagos Philippines 3.00 Maristela Torres 2002-05-04 Manila Poland 4.62 Monika Pyrek 2002-08-23 London Portugal 4.10 Elisabete Tavares 2002-07-13 Saint-Etienne Puerto Rico 3.90 Michelle Velez 2002-05-12 Cd Guatemala Russia 4.78 Svetlana Feofanova 2002-07-16 Stockholm Slovakia 3.81 Slavomira Sluková 2002-07-14 Dubnica Slovenia 4.10 Teja Melink 2002-06-01 Ljubljana Spain 4.40 Naroa Agirre 2002-07-27 Valencia Sweden 4.51 Kirsten Belin 2002-08-27 Göteborg Switzerland 4.21 Nadine Rohr 2002-08-21 Fribourg Taiwan 4.06 Chang Ko-Hsin 2002-09-07 Singapore Tunisia 4.10 Syrine Balti 2002-09-20 Madrid Yugoslavia 3.75 Slavica Semenjuk 2002-06-22 Beograd * - Whitlock was denied a further record improvement when she failed a drug test at a later meet.
