According to iD editor man_made=pipeline implies oneway=yes in the direction of

was unknown)

Additionally, have a look to Rfuegen's proposal to improve pipelines maping.

Hi, I’m the one who introduced this change. I’m happy to roll it back if

I think I added pipeline to the list of tags that imply onewayness because of

Users can still explicitly tag pipelines as

How I should tag pipelines with unknown direction?

Flowing direction does not really work with waterway especially
waterway=canal and it will not work with pipelines.
Better use an own tag like flow_direction=forward/backward/both/none or
similar. This way we will cover all three cases mentioned below.

Hey
As there was a small thread about themed and educational walking trails
on the German mailing list I had a closer look at the wiki.
I was wondering if it is ok to add a new roles for route=hiking to add
the art_work or information boards and use route=hiking with an
additional tag or better
There's no onewayness for natural gas pipelines. They may have a
prevailing direction, but the direction of flow is not determined by the
pipe. It's determined by the pressure differential (gas will flow from high
to low pressure) and this can be changed via use of compressor stations.

I don't believe it's implied, since this situation is the same for pretty
much all but the farthest outreach branches of municipal natgas and water
pipes and electrical powerlines (though potential being the key there).
Heck, even light rail systems are this way to some extent in many cities;

Making oneway=yes as a default and make it automatically into the direction
of flow is not a good solution:
