I think the Google juggernaut seems to be a compelling factor.
They're investing very heavy in the whole python craze - I figure they
know what's hot or not, they have a zillion PhD's in CompSci roaming
the halls there, and it's kinda of a fun language to play with too.

I highly recommend getting your SCJP ASAP. I believe JAva and .NET are the
waves of the future, so-to-say. I prefer Java because I believe it to be
more likely to be on EVERY platform. And I know it, so, heh.

Interesting that you'd go with Python. I've focused on Java, only by cause
of bias. (My Own that is. =D) Any other reasons you think Python should be
taking up my loverly reading time?

Java seems to have a number of fits and starts over the last 10
years, but hanging on. Python can of course be used for all things web
based, and can also create full blown applications too. (bittorrent
for one), I'm still just a beginner.
I have a friend that has been doing Java (and hating it

I've had an intro procedural programming course that used Python and
an object-oriented programming course that used Java. I've been
using PHP at work for about four years.
It seemed to me that Python was more similar to PHP than Java. Java
seemed liked a different animal. That's sort of
Python rocks, but for sure get some Java experience under your belt too.
Good luck! :-) ed

I think there's quite a bit of variety in the work you could expect from a
PHP programmer. While I think $10/hour is really, really low, there are some
positions that are just heads down, follow the instructions, who cares what
the code looks like type. For these, I don't think pay in the $35k-55
"Wow", is an understatement. Look at the tech outsourcing to Bombay and the
salaries there sometime. Eventually US coders/Designers will be obsolete...
sadly.

Yeah this is exactly what I was talking about a couple months back when
there was a discussion on the going rate for PHP programmers.
I mean obviously they're not looking for an experienced PHP programmer
(at least they shouldn't be at that rate, especially in New York City)
they're just looking f
