Scratching head... Smile. Since you can see the icons, and presumably the
screen looks normal, this next thought may be of little value either. But
you wrote that "it seems to go sideways when using the keyboard for
navigation." Have you tried changing the way icons are displayed on the
screen?
Hi Chris.
I downloaded the word web, but it showed up on my systems tray and then
disappeared, after using it. I used the start search, but it didn't show up
anywhere. I like it, but it went away. Any ideas?

That was one of the set's I did re-install and update.
Hi,
Also, in Factory Settings, you could re-install the entry named Default global
settings, and, again, shut down and restart WE.

This is just a thought, since it was suggested that settings may have been

were actually showing on the Desktop. If they are not being shown, under
the View Menu while on the Desktop, check to see if the show Desktop icons
Also sometimes you may try tabbing around and after the notifacation area

So hoped that I could say it fixed the problem.
What I have done.
I re-installed all the set's that were modified - these included the default
and explorer set WE set.
I also updated the default set as it was outdated and overwrote (not merge).
Restarted WE, it now reads the WE tree, but
Have you rebooted the computers. I find this sometime fixes unexplainable

Hi David,
I respect your heartfelt intention to minimize the required workload, and yet I
am frightened by the thought of copying settings between computers.
This is because no two systems will ever be the same, and so I wouldn't want
the configuration of one system to overwrite the
That is, what if they want all the computers in the classroom having an

In such a case, take one of the "working" computers, and copy the GW

Hi,
In the WE control panel, if you open the File menu and select Factory Settings,
pressing W will bring you down to Window-Eyes user interface.
If you then tab over to the Install button, you can re-install the default set
filees so that the Window-Eyes control panel will track properly.

Hi Rod
Thanks for the reply.
Explorer.set is the active set.
Something that I have noticed now - not using the mouse but the keyboard to
navigate the WE tree is that it also does not read the tree entries.
Using the mouse it does read the entries.
Thanks for the assist.

Hi,
If you focus the desktop, and then call up the WE control panel using
Control-backslash, is explorer.set the active set file?
If not, then we can proceed to associate this set file with the desktop.

Thanks Nick
That is kind of part of the problem, pressing Windows/d gets me to the desktop
but then instead of reading the desktop icons WE reads the tooltips but not the
icons.
If I move the mouse over the icon it works fine.
If I switch off tooltip reading in WE - I get silence.
I don't know
I don't know if this will help, but I press windows/d when I want to go

Hi
I recently ran into the following problem.
On some of my computers in the classroom WE has stopped reading the desktop
icons.
It does however read the tooltips.
I don't know if this is just a setting that some of the students have managed
to change or a bug related to a display driver or
