try searching for folder options. i am not on windows 10 now to try a search.
there is a setting in folder options. there is a list of options to hide or
unhide file exten

this is easier.
in the search box in the start menu type icons. then choose from the list to
show or hide common icons on the desktop. this will take you to the same
options screen.

when the cd drive is empty it will not show in the l
part of this is the way you have windows options setup.
but if you open the apps list and go to this pc you can open a context menu and
send it to the desktop
also i think the windows default is to hide empty drives. so if you don't have
a cd in the drive it will not show in this pc.
