I don't know that this will help, but if I get that problem, I do a
shift-tab and then it seems to work properly. If you listen carefully,
you will probably hear something like "name closed"

These are groupings in File Explorer's list view. They can be turned

I assume you have not, as yet, configured your system to display all
folders
in list view or detailed view rather than what is set by default on a new
installation, namely, icons, and I can't remember whether they are
