Hi Grant,
I hope you don't mind, but I'm copying this message to the Window-Eyes talk list, just in case anyone else might be interested. It may not be due to something you did, but it happens to me all the time, virtually daily. This is because using different software which control audio, even the browser, can alter the global volume. If you press the Start button, and type "sound" in the search edit box, and wait for the search results to come up, eventually, you will find an entry called "sound." Pressing Enter on this will bring you to the Windows Sound application. Here' you will find a multi-tab dialog whose tabs contain the various audio devices. What you want is the Playback tab, and then in the list view, find the sound device for playback which you are using. Then, tab to the Properties button, press it, and you'll be in another multi-tab dialog specific to the settings for that sound card. The most important tab you work with in this dialog is the Levels tab, and the first slider in this tab is the one which sets the global volume for the sound device. Once you set it to the proper level, press the Enter key to save the setting since Ok is the default button. Once this dialog closes, you'll be returned to the Windows Sound application. Since the Properties button no doubt presently has focus, you must tab to the Ok button to close the Sound application. Also, in the system tray, there will be a volume icon. If you place focus on this icon, and then press the Applications key, you can down arrow to the option called Open volume mixer. If you press Enter on this option, a dialog will open containing a number of sliders and buttons, and one of the sliders is the global volume. However, the only sound card you'll be adjusting is the default sound device, and this is why I gave you the above instructions for the Windows Sound application. The Windows Sound application has more options, and so you can do a bit more with it, like change the Start up sound for Window-Eyes in the Sounds tab, or manually adjust your recording device settings in the Recording tab. However, the Volume mixer has controls which the Sound application does not, and that is individual sliders and mute buttons for each of the software applications currently running on your system. So, you'll find a slider and mute button for Window-Eyes, your browser, if it's open, system sounds, etc. The volume mixer is the only place to alter these levels, and so this is why I'm mentioning it. Also, the volume mixer does have a split button through which you can switch to the settings for a second or third playback device if you have any. The only last thing I need to mention is that there's no Ok button for the Volume mixer, and so, once you adjust the sliders, just use Alt-F4 to close the Volume mixer window. Perhaps the last thing worth mentioning is that I wrote an app called Power Mixer Enhance, which enhances the accessibility of a third-party volume mixer, and you can get a discount off the purchase price by writing to the software developer. The most important feature of this volume mixer is that it allows you to assign blobal hotkeys for adjusting the sliders and mute status of your sound devices. I hope this answers some of your questions. Smile All the best, Rod From: Grant Metcalf [mailto:the.g...@att.net] Sent: Thursday, June 18, 2015 4:13 PM To: Rod Hutton Subject: global volume control Hi Rod, Somehow I did something wrong this morning and cut my WindowsEyes global volume in half. Trying to fix it I have gotten some of the screens and keyboard commands to increase in volume but not all. Can you explain to me how I can set all WindowEyes features to the same global volume?
