hmmm, take it to batteries plus and have them replace it for you with
a new one. i have a braille lite that i have done this too several
times in order to keep using the device. i now have to look for a
replacement backup

The newer Tripletalk mini doesn't have a built in battery and turns on when
the computer turns on and off when it goes off. It also has a slide switch
for volume. No power switch.
I think it is around $200.

Over the years, I have used both the external Double Talk and the
Tripple Talk syns and would never bother with an external unit again.
These units were of the serial type and both were quite expensive for
what they were.
The Double talk needed to be turned off with the on off volume
I have a triple talk USB. I still prefer the Reed Eloquence voice. The
triple talk is not as responsive and sounds more robotic. Nonetheless, I
feel a bit more secure knowing that I can have speech available even if the
sound card goes out. I've never used the double talk. I believe it may be
