Pam, do you have access to any other pc where you could try it with 8gb of ram? WE sometimes has problems with email, but I don't think it's due to memory or the lack there of.
I'd suggest, if this really bothers you, that you find some other email package and try it for a while. I use Outlook myself, but perhaps others here can recommend better free email.
