Hi,
I had this question come up several times, so let me explain.
Short answer: Kosmos GUI has a feature called "unused ways and nodes"
which (when turned on) allows you to display ( in a visually irritant
way) nodes/ways which were not covered by the rules
Problem solved. It appears that in this particular case WWWOFFLE was the
cause.

No, that's a reasonable request. Currently this is being filtered out, but
should be permitted.
The filter is a bit over-zealous at the moment. I will adjust the settings
to permit this.
