[OSM-Talk-ZA] Tagging questions and proposals
Hi 1. What's happening with the Gauteng e-tolls? Is somebody going to add them to OSM? 2. Is the location of speed traps meant to be secret? Are we allowed to publish where they are in OSM? 3. How to tag gated suburbs? Is this right: barrier=gate and access=no for blocked off roads barrier=lift_gate (ie. boom) and access=yes for entrances 4. How to tag residential estates? The problems at the moment: * highway=living_street seems very wrong. That is an official road designation in some countries. I don't think we have them in SA. It should probably be highway=residential. * access=yes for gates to residential estates. Very wrong: yes means that the public has an official, legally-enshrined right of access. This is the case for gated suburbs, but residential estates are on private property and this is definitely not the case. * access=destination for gates and streets. Deceptive tag. Yes the streets inside an estate with multiple entrances can't be used for transit traffic, but it's more than that: you can't even go to a street as a destination without the owner's permission. The example they give for access=destination is customer parking lots. * internal roads are traced from aerial photography with highway=residential but with no access classification and no name. This appears as a public road with no name, which is not the case. Proposal: * If the estate is entered through a driveway (as opposed to a public road), then it's a nameless highway=service, service=driveway. * The entrance is barrier=gate for a gate, barrier=lift_gate for a boom, with access=private either way. * Every internal street and point of interest has access=private. * Internal streets are usually highway=residential, and might not have names, because unit numbers are often relative to the estate, not the street. * The estate's land area has landuse=residential, name=The name of the estate. This is also how it's been done in other countries, see explanation and example below: http://help.openstreetmap.org/questions/4737/best-practices-for-applying-accessprivate http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=33.74281lon=-117.76746zoom=16layers=M What do you think? Can I add this to the local tagging guidelines? Thank you Damjan ___ Talk-ZA mailing list Talk-ZA@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-za
