StatsCan has road network data available too:

Not as much geometric detail, and less positional accuracy than CanVec, but it
does have address ranges.
E.G. Attributes for a road (4th ave SW)in Calgary:
RB_UID=135363

When we want to try testing an import from GeoBase why not look to
doing so within one of the Territories.
I have on hand all of the Canvec distribution files, in GML, for the
Yukon Territory plus a chunk of the surround in AB,BC NWT. I'm
ignorant of the OSM format but can dedicate a machine
Hello:
I'm looking forward to the geobase data import. From reading the
various emails have I grasped the options correctly?
Initial ideas:
1 - Delete all of OSM Canada and replace with geobase data.
2 - Just upload the geobase data and have users clean it up.

I've been following the conversations with interest, and find myself
wondering what is the value for OSM in ingesting wholesale the public

Would the StatsCan Data be available to us though (to input into OSM based
on our license)? After reading the license agreement it sounds a bit iffy
because of the acknowledgement required even if it is released under an
unrestricted use license agreement, but I don't know what exactly is allowed
Elevation contours can be of real interest, I gather some bicycle
groups in Germany have used elevation data in OSM for things like
planning tour routes (not only do bicycle rides want limits on
distance/day they also want limits on sudden changes in elevation (no
steep hills)).

Thanks Andrew,I have updated the wiki, and my comment on each users talk

Hopefully it is a little more clear now.

And of course, its wiki, so everything is questionable.

I think we just have to be a bit conscious of project creep and that the map

I have to agree, however from the opposite side of the fence.
Hydrology and elevation contours are major natural

I like that choice of features that should be imported into OSM. They're
standard for pretty much any road map that people use, besides the hydrology
network, but web maps like Google have rivers creeks without making it
look messy so we could get away with it. The water features will
