Just an FYI,
IMO, getting 'direct concent' in the form of 'written permission'
should be fine. As well as the XML format (i think is the same as OSM)
Fortunatly, the licence is good enough that i can make my own 'do not
sell' Garmin map.

When you say 'ocean water polygons', I guess you are talking about modifying
natural=coastline ways (PGS or others) that define oceans among other things
using/for Canvec data?
I usually prefer to keep the original data and make it fits on the (assumed
better) reference data. Furthermore
