Hi all,
I just saw that user Benni posted this page on this website, I found it
because I use Google Reader, which now has a translate button :) ... So
hopefully this passes the language barrier. .. almost (doesn't totally) but
makes it closer.
I'll try to get in touch with the user, to thank them.

FYI,
Cheers,

Canada imported OpenStreetMap
From: Benni on 21.11.2008 14:29
------------------------------
*OpenStreetMap import the complete Spatial Canada ...*

Through the cooperation of the
OpenStreetMap<http://209.85.171.104/translate_c?hl=en&sl=de&tl=en&u=http://www.openstreetmap.org/&usg=ALkJrhgo3MGWsoNWGAdYkflAOoKJG-dESg>Foundation
and the Initiative
GeoBase.ca<http://209.85.171.104/translate_c?hl=en&sl=de&tl=en&u=http://www.geobase.ca/&usg=ALkJrhgV1pgOWK3I9t-p8SdVuoclKiu8KQ>
growing *OSM*free *world map* in one fell swoop to *complete* geodata*
Canada.* The donation of the second largest country on earth is the biggest
single donation to the data OpenStreetMap project.

GeoBase is an initiative *of* all government *authorities* in Canada. It
will be supervised by Canadian Council on
Geomatics<http://209.85.171.104/translate_c?hl=en&sl=de&tl=en&u=http://www.geobase.ca/geobase/en/about/organization.html%3Bjsessionid%3DC9B740AAC17F5CC3FD99826EA4628B77&usg=ALkJrhjvbMmw6Ghn21IWtkUj31k73dMEdw#ccog>
(CCOG). Their task is to collect and provide a common, timely and
well-maintained base of quality*spatial data* for Canada. The GeoBase record
contains, inter alia, *the* entire *national road network, waterways,
coastlines,* boundaries of administrative units *and* altitude *information.
*

The import is, as with previous data imports from the United States and the
Netherlands, from the OpenStreetMap community *itself.* Will begin *with*
pilot *areas* to share experiences with the construction of the data and
the conflict with existing data to collect. Through donations such data in
Canada can project members reinforced on the spot *corrections and* additions
to concentrate.

*In* Germany, is negotiating with authorities over the release of such data
are still difficult as*Jochen pot,* OpenStreetMap developer from Karlsruhe
knows, *this country still prevail often insecurity and disapproval* ... *For
2009 we hope that progress.*
*pocketnavigation.de opinion:*
*Donations of this size will save the members of the OSM project much time
and labor.* *But even after the import of spatial data, it will still have
work to do to give Canada the coverage map on the standard of other regions
in the free world map to bring.* *Pity that the authorities in Germany are
not yet ready to declare similar data available.*
