I need to give a presentation on OSM a couple of months down the road.
One of the key aspects in my talk will revolve on the idea that OSM
provides people with data they can operate on instead of just having
access to pre-rendered images.

My personal favourite example that I tell people is
http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/HaptoRender where OSM data is used to
"print" a haptic map for blind users. I think it demonstrates very well the
difference between access to final rendered images vs. access to the raw
data.

I guess some implementation details are given at the page you mention
Richard. I feel there are folks in the audience that will ask me "how
did they do that we want to do it too!" and I'll be dumbfounded ;-). If
anyone has pointers to nitty-gritty implementation detail
