Job: Open Source Editor, heise online heise online UK (http://www.heise-online.co.uk/) is looking for an editor to run its Open Source channel. heise online (rhymes with visor) is the UK's newest technology web site, and focuses on practical advice for the technical expert based on our own research, not just what the vendors want you to know or are willing to tell you. heise online is published by Heise Media, the UK arm of Germany's most successful technology publishers, Heise Verlag. The successful candidate will know their GPL from their BSD, be able to explain the advantages of ODF and understand what a SCM system does. Previous journalism experience not necessary, but excellent communication and research skills are required. The ability to explain highly technical concepts clearly and concisely is vital. A cool head under pressure is also desirable. As well as managing the content for the Open Source channel, the editor's job involves being an ambassador for the site, so they must be comfortable speaking in public, and mixing with people from the industry in various settings. The editor's responsibilities will include writing, commissioning and editing news and features, including translations of German articles. The job will involve occasional foreign travel, and some work in the evening. The Open Source editor will report to the Editor-in-Chief of heise online. Candidates will need to be based in the UK, or willing to relocate there (unless you think you can attend regular meetings in London by flying in from Tuscany at your own expense).
