[Talk-gb-westmidlands] FW: Emailing tweet from: citizensheep (Michael Grimes)

2010-04-12 Thread Ed Loach
At the risk that those involved are already on this list and you might all know about it already, someone has just forwarded the following Tweet to me via email. I'm 200 odd miles away so can't make it, but I pass it on in case it is of any interest. Ed -Original Message- Sent: 12 April

[Talk-gb-westmidlands] OS StreetView Birmingham City Centre alignment

2010-04-12 Thread Brian Prangle
Hi everyone I've compared our data which we knew to be pretty crappy with OS StreetView and there is a huge amount of work to be done in re-aligning streets and associated buildings. How do we propose to go about this? Once a street is re-aligned there's lots of bus stops, POIs and bdgsand

[Talk-gb-westmidlands] OS StreetView tracing vs surveying

2010-04-12 Thread Brian Prangle
Hi everyone I know that there are strong opinions on surveying being more fun and more accurate and richer in POI/addressing/bustops/etc detail but given the scale and remoteness of what's left to be done in the Black Country, I can't help feeing that we should make use of all this OS data to

2010-04-12 Thread Mary Mooney OSM
I am with Brian. I have never taken data from another source and mapped it within OSM. Would it be worth covering this at Kidderminster next Saturday. On another point. I have mapped two electricity sub stations, one near home using my GPS handheld, and a second near work using my Android

Re: [Talk-gb-westmidlands] Kidderminster this saturday - meeting place?

Feedback suggests Sainsbury's at 10am is good so I've put that on the wiki. We do need a pub for lunchtime though, so can we have some suggestions for that please too. Would be nice to nail down somewhere before we go. Ideally it's a location which doesn't get too rammed on a Saturday lunchtime.

Re: [Talk-GB] VectorMap District: Completely crazy idea, maybe, but...

Dave So sorry to hear that you only walk in good weather. Approx. 240 km of walking with GPS receiver so far this year ;-) ... but of course you are right in saying that field boundaries near paths (whether or not PROWs) are the most important. My point was simply that OSM is unlikely

[Talk-GB] London Mapping Marathons

2010-04-12 Thread Nick Black
Hi Guys, What are the chances we could do the London Mapping Marathons on Tuesday or Thursdays? There's a SOTM conference call every Wednesday from 8pm BST that makes it difficult to make it to the mapping parties. What do you think? -- Nick Black twitter.com/nick_b

I'd be happy to do that (I'm back from the start of May!). I think Thursdays might pan out better for me, but I might alternate if stuff comes up on Tuesdays. I think it was another Nick that mentioned SOTM and language in another e-mail, and I feel I should at least attempt to say a few key
