Hard to check a render problem without a screenshot.
It's not clear what do you mean with transparency.
What I observed in this area was that the eastern segment had a few stuck tiles with some retail
pink on it yesterday, which today it sorted itself with rerendering.

Well it is certainly a good idea to teach computer science
beyond MSWord, and geography beyond old printed maps.
Local knowledge plays an important role in OSM, and if all
the local streets are named already (are they?) and all
park benches are mapped, this is an interesting idea.
