interessante progetto australiano in cui si invitano gli sviluppatori
a lavorare sui dati del governo e creare nuovi tipi di visualizzazioni
e integrazioni (mashup).

in italia, quando? :)

Subject: [Imports] Possible bulk import of 2.1 million property
boundary data - "mashup australia"

Hi all importers and hangers on,

This is an initial enquiry that spawns from a competition known as
"mashup australia", (http://mashupaustralia.org/) introduced at
http://gov2.net.au/blog/2009/09/30/your-invitation-to-mashupaustralia/

Note there are "$1,000 bonuses awarded for the data transformations":

"For the Transformation Challenge: significantly enhance and/or open
up for programmatic access at least one of the datasets provided for
this contest in the
process of building your mashup. This might be by building an API for
your mashup to allow the extraction of enhanced, enriched mashed up
data."

Looks like we have at least two challenges:

1. Dump some shapefile data into OSM - for example the 2.1 million
property lot data at http://data.australia.gov.au/152 could get
somebody's attention
2. Work out who should get the cash from the clean sweep of the prize
pool that would inevitably occur (we don't have an OSM foundation
Australian chapter,
I believe)

Could / should OSM be holding data down to the lot level?  I would say
yes but I don't control the budget.

Bonus challenge: deduplicate the adjoining lot boundaries if that
would result in smaller storage sizes - mind you this would blow out
the relationship count
instead.

Who can I follow this up with?  I see you have a teleconference coming
up but it's at 4:30am local time here (UTC+10).

Brendan

p.s. you can see another example of "data transformations" by pointing
your WMS clients at a toy server I've set up which you can use to
browse the 2.1m
dataset.  Details inside
