It is really useful in the context of the civic engagement platform (SMS text fault reporting software) that we are trialling in Cebu through the World Bank-funded transport crowd sourcing demonstration projects. We will be using the classification of roads according to administrative jurisdiction (national, provincial, municipal, barangay), so that when faults are reported via SMS text and placed on a map which uses OSM tiles we can automatically assign responsibilities to the appropriate organisation (DEPW, DPWH, Barangay).
We will seek to align our approach in Cebu with that you are adopting elsewhere in the Philippines, so that the use of tags is consistent, and will keep you all posted on our progress and share some screenshots once the pilot is up and running later in the year. In the LGU, they usually classify roads according to administrative jurisdiction (i. e. national road, provincial road, municipal road, brgy road). This is more for management purposes to designate who will maintain the roads and from which budget it should come from. Anyway, I am proposing we add another tag to reflect this infomation. Currently, there are two variants listed in the wiki: 1. designation - The tag designation=* is used to record the legal classification of a way. [1] 2. highway:admin - describes the legal/administrative designation of a road, in more detail than the highway key. [2] I am more inclined to use the "designation" key.
