Here's a little bit of background of our guest. Allan P. Mustard is a retired United States career diplomat and was previously the United States Ambassador to Turkmenistan from 2014 until his retirement in 2019. Aside from his official duties representing the United States government in the former Soviet country, he spent his free time mapping the capital of Ashgabat in OSM making the city one of the best-mapped places in Central Asia in any mapping service. Before he was appointed an ambassador, he worked as a Foreign Service Officer under the U.S. Department of Agriculture and had been posted in various places worldwide such as Istanbul, Vienna, Moscow, Mexico City, and New Delhi. Aside from English, Allan also speaks German and Russian, the latter of which he learned as an undergrad at the University of Washington.
