I'm getting messages from the validator claiming public_transport=platform
can only be used on way or closed_way. This is not true. It can be used
perfectly well on nodes. In that case the node represents the position of
the pole. I just checked it on the wiki.
That's how it was added to the wiki ages ago. Since the start of the 'new'
schema.
The alternative is to add a new object public_transport=pole and a new role
for the routes. This was not deemed necessary back then though.

There is a reason why we are keeping the nodes representing the poles. They
have all the details since the beginning and we need them to keep track of
changes coming in from the PT operators upstream.
It's also easier to keep track of the history of that particular bus stop.
