Hi all, There appear to be several conventions in use when it comes to mapping street addresses. Some people create 'associatedStreet' relations, to which both the street, and the houses in the street, belongs. In this scheme, each house has a addr:houseNumber property.
Others (and this in well-mapped areas, like London) don't create such relations, and instead simply place nodes - each with an addr:street and addr:houseNumber. What should we prefer for our mapping efforts in South Africa? Obviously, it should be in line with what address searching / routing software deals with best. And also (more importantly), there was talk earlier of potentially obtaining the street numbers data from South African government data. This would be *much* more efficient than our feeble manual efforts (the state of OpenStreetMaps for South Africa is mostly in a very sparse state - I am dedicating half an hour per day to fix up the areas that I know). thanks! -- DAWID LOUBSER Systems Architect - Travellinck International http://www.travellinck.com (World Wide Web) tel:+27-82-655-0876 (Mobile phone) mailto:da...@travellinck.com (E-Mail) xmpp:dawid.loub...@gmail.com (Google Talk) skype:dawid.loubser (Skype)
