Robin, as I understand things, the alternate tunings are very popular
with fiddler's, and its heaps of fun to try out on the mandolin and
the different tunings make new chord sounds, very very cool, however
one needs a very sound mandolin with cross bracing to avoid the
tension on the strings push

I have heard that too and now there are some new, fancy turntables for
sale, we got one since my partner likes Jazz and has a lot of old
vinyl in his collection. It works for him, but one has to pay
attention to when the record is finished, etc.
