Maybe it started earlier: when periodic mail check is used and TB! cannot connect to MAPI server, the task will be stuck in the CC. So, if my TB! cannot connect to the Exchange server overnight because of the server is down, by morning I have hundreds of Connecting to Exchange server or similar item in my CC... How to try: e.g. unplug the network cable and try to connect to the MAPI server...
