Using TB! 1.62r, Windows 2000 Pro SP2, GnuPG 1.2.2 (for Windows)

I have a messagage with a GnuPG signature. The message has the following
general format:

BEGIN PPG SIGNED MESSAGE

<message block, NOT encrypted>

BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE
<Signature block>
END PGP SIGNATURE

I have the author's public key in my keyring. With the message in preview, I go
to the Tools/OpenPGP/Check OpenPGP Signature menu, and TB shows me a message
with "Good signature from..." pretty as you please. Great, this works.

What I'd like to know is, can TB! give me a similar answer if the message is
both encrypted and signed, i.e. when the format is:

BEGIN PPG MESSAGE

<ASCII-Armored (or not) encrypted message>

END PGP SIGNATURE

The reason I ask is:

I am evaluating TB! and comparing it to my existing MUA, Eudora Pro. The GnuPG
plugin in Eudora lets me verify the signature on this second type of message
before decrypting it. It displays "Good signature from..." without decrypting
it.

I realize this would require me to enter my passphrase twice (once for the
verification, and again for the decryption) and I understand it is not possible
to make this kind of verification without the GPG decrypting anyway (at least
internally, without necessarily displaying the decrypted message yet). At any
rate, I've been told that TB! should be able to do this. If not, I can come up
with my own solutions, but I would love to know if anyone here has been able to
verify signatures on THIS kind of message, within the TB! GUI, before
instructing TB! to go ahead and decrypt.

Many thanks and best regards
