Maybe. But with 1 msg/file
a) folder-to-folder operations would be faster
b) folders wouldn't have to be compressed time to time
c) you could code up some interesting new concepts easier, I mean
_virtual folders_.

For c) you would need a filesystem with some database-like semantics,
currently BeFS, at some point of the future ReiserFS.

The situation is way better than in FAT/NTFS, but EXT2 isn't
invulnerable either... If the volume fills up, fragmentation can't be
avoided, and then Linux won't automagically defragment your files
after you have enough space...
