What I'm referring to is ONLY a filtering script, which would be
completely OPTIONAL. This would not affect anything about the screen
or anything else in the program, and could be ignored if you desire.

In Spam Bouncer, I just copy the file and use it - I don't have to do
ANYTHING to it, although there is a very small additional file that
has one's account information in it. I was thinking of something
similar for TB.

I'm not sure I understand why you are objecting to having an option
that would not affect you in any way, unless you choose to use it.

Regarding power and simplicity, to get a lot of power often requires a
bit of complexity. This complexity can be 'transparent', as it tends
to be with Visual Basic, or relatively 'opaque' as it is with many
Unix-style tools, such as RegExp's. The 'transparency' is more often a
larger problem for beginner/occasional users than the complexity.
